ஒருவர்,
ஒரு வாடிக்கையாளரை சந்திப்பதற்காக அவரது வீட்டிற்கு செல்ல முடிவெடுக்கிறார். அந்த வாடிக்கையாளர் அடிக்கடி தொடர்பு கொண்டு தொல்லை கொடுத்துக் கொண்டிருப்பவர். எப்படியாவது இன்று அவரை சந்தித்து, அவரது எல்லா சந்தேகங்களையும் முழுவதுமாக தீர்த்து வைக்கவேண்டும். அது முடியாவிட்டால் இனிமேல் தொல்லை கொடுக்க முடியாதவாறு நன்றாக திட்டிவிட்டு வரவேண்டும் என்ற முடிவுடன் அவரது வீட்டிற்கு சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார்.

வாடிக்கையாளரின் வீடானது அந்த தெருவின் இறுதியில் தனியாக இருந்தது. தனது, வண்டியை நிறுத்திவிட்டு,
வீட்டிற்கு முன்பிருந்த கேட்டினை திறந்து கொண்டு உள்ளே சென்றார். கேட்டிற்கு பக்கத்திலேயே ஒரு பெரிய பெட்டி இருந்தது. அதன் மேல் "உங்களது அன்பிற்கு மிகவும் நன்றி" என்று எழுதி இருந்தது....
அவரும் அதனைப் பார்த்தவாறே முன்னேறி காலிங் பெல் அருகில் சென்றார்.

அதன் அருகில் வித்தியாசமாக 0 முதல் 9 வரையிலான எண்களைக் கொண்ட பட்டன்கள் இருந்தன. அதனை பார்த்தாவாறே அவர் காலிங் பெல்லை அழுத்தினார்.

"வணக்கம்" என்ற குரல் கேட்டது. அதிர்ச்சியுடன் பின் வாங்கினார்.
பின் குரல் தொடர்ந்தது...
"தமிழுக்கு எண் 1 ஐ அழுத்தவும்...
for english press 2." என்று சொன்னது...

என்னடா இது விளையாட்டு என்று நினைத்தவாறே எண் 1ஐ அழுத்தினார்.
இப்பொழுது.....,
தெரிந்தவர் என்றால் எண் 1ஐ அழுத்தவும்,
தெரியாதவர் என்றால் எண் 2ஐ அழுத்தவும்,
கடன் வாங்க வந்தவர் என்றால்
எண் 3ஐ அழுத்தவும்,
கடன் கொடுக்க வந்தவர் என்றால்
எண் 4ஐ அழுத்தவும்,
பேசியே அறுப்பவர் என்றால்
எண் 5ஐ அழுத்தவும்,
நண்பர் என்றால் எண் 6ஐ அழுத்தவும்,
சொந்தக்காரர் என்றால் எண் 7ஐ அழுத்தவும்,
கூட்டமாய் வந்திருந்தால் எண் 8ஐ அழுத்தவும்,
பால், பேப்பர், தபால் காரர் என்றால் எண் 9ஐ அழுத்தவும், மீண்டும் முதலில் இருந்து கேட்க எண் 0 ஐ அழுத்தவும்"என்ற அறிவிப்பு வந்தது.

ஒன்றுமே புரியாதவராய் ஒரு அதிர்ச்சியுடன் கஸ்டமர் கேரில் வேலை பார்க்கும் அந்த நபர் எண் 2ஐ அழுத்தினார்.

மீண்டும் ஒரு அறிவிப்பு ஆரம்பித்தது...
"வாருங்கள் வாருங்கள்"
"வீட்டின் முதலாளி சில வேலை காரணமாக கொஞ்சம் பிஸியாக இருப்பதால் நீங்கள் சிறிது நேரம் காத்திருக்கும் படி கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறோம்"என்பதுடன் தொடர்ந்து ஒரு பாட்டு கேட்க ஆரம்பித்தது.....

"சோதனைமேல் சோதனை
போதுமடா சாமி!
வேதனைதான் வாழ்க்கை என்றால்
தாங்காது பூமி!
சோதனைமேல் சோதனை
போதுமடா சாமி!"
என்று அடுத்து ஐந்து நிமிடங்களுக்கு முழுப்பாடலும் கேட்க ஆரம்பித்தது....

கஸ்டமர் கேர் மனிதர் வெறுத்துப்போய் விட்டார்.பாடல் முடியும் முன்பே எண் 2ஐ அழுத்தினார். உடனே,
"அன்பரே! நீங்கள் முழுப்பாடலையும் கேட்காத காரணத்தினால் மீண்டும் உங்களுக்காக அடுத்த பாடல்" என்று பாட்டு தொடங்கியது.

"நடக்கும் என்பார் நடக்காது
நடக்காதென்பார் நடந்து விடும்
கிடைக்கும் என்பார் கிடைக்காது
கிடைக்காதென்பார் கிடைத்து விடும்" என்று பாடியது......
மனுசன் பொறுமையாகக் கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். நேரம் ஆக ஆக இவரும் சிறிது சிறிதாக பொறுமை இழந்து கொண்டிருந்தார்.பாடல் முழுதும் முடிந்தவுடன் மீண்டும் எண் 2ஐ அழுத்தினார்.

"மன்னிக்கவும்...
இன்று வீட்டு முதலாளியை உங்களால் சந்திக்க இயலாது. அவர் இப்பொழுது தூங்கிவிட்டார்..., ஆனால் உங்களால் திரும்பி போகவும் முடியாது. நீங்கள் திரும்பிப் போக வேண்டுமென்றால் வாசலின் கேட்டிற்கு அருகே உள்ள பெட்டியில் ஒரு நூறு ரூபாயைப் போட வேண்டும். அப்பொழுது தான் வாசல் கதவு திறக்கும் என அறிவித்தது.

தன்னைத்தானே நொந்து கொண்டவராய்...
"உங்கள் அன்பிற்கு மிகவும் நன்றி" என்று எழுதப்பட்டிருந்த அந்தப் பெட்டியில் அவர் நூறு ரூபாய் போட, கதவு திறந்து கொண்டது...
தன் கோபத்தை எல்லாம் அவர் வண்டியின் மீது காட்ட, வண்டி கடைசி வரை 'ஸ்டார்ட்' ஆகவேயில்லை... வேக வேகமாக தள்ளிக்கொண்டு, அந்த வீட்டை கோபமாக பார்த்தவாறே தன் வீடு நோக்கி கிளம்பினார்.
எங்கேயோ தூரத்தில் ஒரு பாடல் ஒலித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தது....

"எங்களுக்கும் காலம் வரும்"
